Gold Dust Woman

Gold makeup at Carlos Miele, via
There's something so inherently California about gold - gold makeup can seem a little bit scary-showgirl, but I think when it's done right, it can really make your (airbrush or otherwise) tan pop! Upon receipt of Stila Waterproof Eye Liner in Flash in my May Birchbox, I was inspired to try out my Bronzed Bunny Tan in a Can (which I LOVED) to prep for some gold makeup. Since the pictures I was taking of this look on me weren't really showing up, I decided to draw a really gorgeous diagram of what I came up with. And yes, I DID attend that mail-in art school advertised in the back of YM, where you send in drawings of the turtle and the pirate to get your degree.

I started with Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Bone, from lash line to crease. Then, I added a little bit of Chanel Eyeshadow in Blazing Gold to the eyelid, followed by MAC Eyeshadow in Honey Lust applied to the crease. I added (my new fave) Stila Waterproof Eye Liner in Flash across the top lashline, making it thicker and slightly winged toward the outer edge, and then lined the outer half of the bottom lid. I finished with some Make Up For Ever gold glitter applied lightly to the entire lid (focusing on the lash line to give the eyeliner some extra pizzaz while it was still wet).

I'm also in the market for a great new bronzer to amp up my look - I've heard great things about the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Cheek Glow, Stila Bronzing Tinted Moisturizer, Nars Bronzer in Laguna, and the Laura Mercier Bronzer Duo.

Finally, I love the gold nails I've been seeing lately! I think that these shades would look great on any skin tone! Deborah Lippman Nefertiti, Zoya Richelle, Essie As Gold As It Gets, OPI Glitzerland, Deborah Lippman Boom Boom Pow, Zoya Jules.

Do you guys have any amazing gold items in your beauty repertoire? Do tell! :)

P.S. - Even though this post has NOTHING to do with Stevie Nicks, I would like to take this opportunity to report that I saw Fleetwood Mac in concert a few years ago and SN looked GREAT! She also wore a gorgeous gold shawl to perform "Gold Dust Woman." That is all.
